twirling, twirling

I worry about Isis’s continuous ‘twirling’, spinning round and round, sometimes snapping as though catching imaginary flies, sometimes just spinning.

Could this be a result of being chained for most of her life? Was she tormented by flies and unable to escape from them. Could the twirling indicate a more sinister problem?

My friend the polymath tells me she has come across some interesting websites some of which mention the twirling.

It has been suggested that dogs with impaired sight probably have floaters which they perceive as flies. This seems very feasible: Isis snaps exactly as if she were attacking flies at the end of her nose.

G says she may not feel tormented but might enjoy ‘catching’ flies.
